Italian Line: Three dinner menus from the short time in 1977-78 when the LEONARDO DA VINCI was reactivated for Caribbean cruises. Although the company was called Italian Cruises International, the ship was managed by Costa. The ship proved too big and too expensive to operate and was quickly put back into lay-up where a fire destroyed her in 1980. These 3 menus reflect that turbulent time. The wonderful Italian Line cuisine from days gone by is gone and instead the offerings look like standard bland cruise fare. On back the Italian Line logos have been overprinted with the new line name. Even the printing inside is sub-par. To me, a former restaurateur, the ultimate sin has been committed. Someone took a marker and crossed off items that the kitchen had run out of. I'm embarassed when I see that in diners, but on this vessel, one of the most beautiful ever created? A very sad ending.
