Hapag Lloyd: A set of three souvenir plates, probably given to cruise passengers in the 1930s. On the back of each is "Presented By Hamburg American Line - North German Lloyd" . In the Depression 1930s the two German companies collaborated, mostly for cruise service. Each plate shows a different historic image of a German city - Frankfurt's Romerberg Square in the city center, the Koln Cathedral on which construction began in 1248, and Heidelberg's Old Bridge with the famous castle in the background. All these landmarks were destroyed during WW2 - Romerberg Square and Koln Cathedral by Allied bombers, and the Old Bridge by the retreating Germans. All were rebuilt after the war. Each of these plates is 9 1/2 " in diameter and made by Hutschenreuther. Except for a little rubbing on the gold rim they are in excellent condition. Price for the set.
