Various Ships<br>France Afloat
French Line: A set of three framed advertisements promoting "France Afloat" from the 1950s. Each is full of the color and drama found in CGT ads of the era. The first is entitled "You're in France the minute you step aboard" and features abstract figures by Cobella delighting in the pleasures of shipboard life, on this case on the ILE DE FRANCE whose bow juts into the lower corner. The second says "You're in France the minute you step aboard - France Afloat" A handsome rendition of the LIBERTE fills the bottom while above it is an abstract painting of a table, grapes, a dove, muddy ground, and a colonnade in the distance. And this signifies what? The third and last framed ad is less obtuse. "French Line - Your Gay EntrTe to Europe" is the headline and the text extols the CGT table. The pictures includes a silver ice bucket with the CGT logo clearly visible, a gold rimmed plate marked CGT, a big glass of bubbly also marked CGT, two silver forks that are probably marked CGT on the back, and a wine list. I would kill for that ice bucket! I would also be happy with any of the other marked items. Each ad is matted in red and professionally framed in a black and gold frame. The set looks striking together. Each is 10 +" by 13 +".
