White Star Line: The OCEANIC - the last great supership of the 19th century and the first one to surpass the length of the GREAT EASTERN (1858). For a very short time the ship was the belle of the Atlantic before better and bigger German and English ships took over. The OCEANIC had a short career as an armed merchant cruiser - converted in August 1914, she was stranded in September and declared a total loss. This postcard was posted in 1901 by a traveler who noted they were sea sick only one day. The card was printed in the day that writing on the address side was strictly prohibited.
