Cunard Line: From early 1971, a fold-out deck plan for the CUNARD ADVENTURER, a shockingly different Cunard. To paraphrase Madison Avenue, this was not your father's Cunard. The ADVENTURER small (14,000 tons), austere (lots of Jetsons-era plastic), and didn't come with an "ia" at the end of her name. A year after her December 1971 maiden voyage a sister, CUNARD AMBASSADOR, was delivered. What star-crossed ships! They broke down, they caught fire, and they collided with other ships. In fact, when the AMBASSADOR caught fire in September 1974, the damage was so bad that Cunard decided not to rebuild her. Instead she was suffered the ultimate indignity, conversion into a livestock carrier. A decade later the ship caught fire again was scrapped. The ADVENTURER was sold out of the fleet in 1976 to make room for the improved CUNARD COUNTESS and CUNARD PRINCESS. She was sold to Norwegian Caribbean Line which rebuild her into the SUNWARD II, where she led a far more successful career. This brochure folds out 17" by 22" to show 7 decks, cabin mock-up photos, rates, and maiden cruise itineraries. It is in excellent condition.
