Texaco: From the Frank Braynard collection, this 21" by 28" portrait shows the SS TEXAS of 1949 riding low in the water with a full load of crude oil. Ship specs are along the bottom are bisected by the colorful Texaco houseflag. The size and heft of this picture, plus the New York framer's tag on back, indicates it probably hung in Texaco's New York offices. Frank Braynard, who was friends with everyone involved in ships, probably was offered the print once the ship was no longer star of the fleet. His daughter reports that Frank would often arrive home after riding the commuter train to Sea Cliff with his arms full of his latest finds. The mahogany frame shows a few nicks, otherwise the print is in excellent condition. The TEXAS was broken up in 1986.
