Ship History: The July 31, 1935, issue of "The Syren and Shipping Illustrated", a British journal aimed at the maritime industry. The journal's 34 pages are crammed with period advertisements and articles about ocean liners and other vessels. There are ads for passenger lines, builders, fitters, furniture, paints, equipment, and ports. There are a dozen articles in this issue with the most interesting being about Melbourne Steamship Company's new motorship DUNTROON. Photos show handsome Deco interiors in her Dining Saloon, Smoking Room, and two views of her Lounge. News snippets include a blurb about General Electric being chosen to illuminate many of the public rooms onboard the QUEEN MARY, the new ORION hitting 21.66 knots in trials, and the amalgamation of passenger service between NDL and HAPAG. Ads for fuel oil picture Cunard's FRANCONIA in a British Mexican Petroleum spread, and the Messageries Maritimes' PRESIDENT DOUMER bunkering Shell Oil. The journal is soiled and a bit torn up around the edges but intact. The inner pages are in very good condition.
