HARVARD: 1907<br>Pre-wreck
Metropolitan Steamship Company:: The speedy HARVARD and her sister YALE were built for New York to Boston run. The ships achieved 24 knots during their trials and for a short time were well known along the East Coast. In the 'teens they were moved to the West Coast where they again achieved prominence for their speedy runs between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Tragedy struck in 1931 when the HARVARD struck a rock and sank, although all passengers and crew were saved. On this early card, postmarked August 9, 1909, the writer notes, "My, but it warm!"
