Eastern Steamship Company: This well-traveled ship had already been through five name changes (GENERAL W.P. RICHARDSON, LAGUARDIA, LEILANI, PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT, and ATLANTIS) before being sailing as the EMERALD SEAS. "Glittering like a jewel in sparkling emerald waters" is how Eastern's hacks describe her. Because of her high fuel consumption she was never a money maker for previous companies but for slow moving cruise service she proved a winner. She sailed for Eastern and next owner Admiral Cruise Line for 2 decades. In the 1990s she sailed as the SAPPHIRE SEAS for Sunset Cruises. Finally in 2005 she was hauled up on the beach at Alang. This fold-out brochure from December 1977 features many photos of her interiors, sample cabin photos and lay-outs, rates, itineraries, and color-coded deck plans.
