American Scantic Line: A rarely heard-of Moore McCormack subsidiary founded in 1927 to sail from New York to Scandinavia. In 1932 the company added passenger service in 4 ships, SCANPENN, SCANYORK, SCANMAIL, and SCANSTATES, which each held 74 people. The passenger service lasted only 7 years and was discontinued in 1939 at the outbreak of war. This 20" square linen napkin is a rare relic from that short-lived era. Woven into the linen is a foliage pattern around a circle in the center containing "American Scantic Line". The napkin is in very good condition with just one little pin-hole of wear.
