Hamburg America Line and NDL: A 20 page joint brochure for the two German companies' West Indies and South American cruises in 1936. NDL's contribution was the COLUMBUS which was well known to the 1930s American cruise buff. HAPAG's NEW YORK was less familiar but not unknown. In this brochure each ship gets a two page spread with a portrait photo, and 3 interior pics, plus glowing text. The interiors views for both ships show elegant and ornate Social Halls, suites, and fancy Dining Rooms. The average modern cruise customer would not feel comfortable here in the requisite shorts, dirty t-shirt, and sandals. Even on a cruise, one dressed for dinner and social occasions on these ships. In the back is a photo and ad for HAPAG's RELIANCE. In a few years all three ships would be gone, victims of war.
