Cunard Line: For a time in the early to mid 1960s Cunard went on a binge painting all its cruise-oriented ships in the same shades of green as used on the CARONIA. Both the newly converted FRANCONIA and CARMANIA became mini-Green Goddesses, as did the MAURETANIA. The look was flattering on the CARONIA, not so much on the other 3 ships. The dignified MAURETANIA looked like a matron trying on a bikini. While the poor MAURE was quickly hustled off to the breakers (perhaps she died of embarrassment?), both the FRANCONIA and CARMANIA were repainted in white which was far less expensive to maintain. This unused "After the Battle" postcard shows the CARMANIA in her green days.
