Companhia Colonial de Navegacao: A First Class dinner menu from the transatlantic liner SANTA MARIA dated June 18, 1971. The ship often carried Americans and wealthy Latins in a smallish First and teeming masses down in Tourist from Portugal to South America. The choices, while not extensive, look appetizing. The ship's most famous moment came in the early 1960s when anti-dictator rebels commandeered the ship and held all the passengers hostage for several days. By the time this menu was printed in 1971 the SANTA MARIA's days were numbered. Travel by jet and the loss of Portugal's colonies cut deeply into business. The ship was scrapped in 1973.
