Ship History: "Captain Roberts of the SIRIUS" by Daphne D.C. Pochin Mould, published by the SIRIUS Commemoration Committee in 1988 on the 150th anniversary of the voyage, hardbound with original dust jacket, 226 pages. Dr. Mould tells the exciting story of this Irishman's career in the Royal Navy chasing slave traders and how he moved into steam navigation. In April 1838 he arrived in New York aboard the little SIRIUS, the first scheduled, passenger carrying steamer to arrive from Europe. Tragically, Roberts died a young man only a few years later and the SIRIUS was wrecked in 1847.
