American Line: The ST.PAUL might look like a tramp steamer in this line issued postcard mailed in 1904, but at the time of her introduction in 1895 she was one of the fastest and most popular ships on the transatlantic route. Like her American Line fleetmates, she was called up by the Navy in 1898 during the Spanish American War and servied as a scout cruiser. Times changed quickly at the turn of the 20th century and the ST.PAUL was soon outclassed by new ships from Cunard, White Star, HAPAG, and NDL.
