White Star Line: A winner is crowned as the TEUTONIC passes Sandy Hook in this front page etching from the "Harper's Weekly" of August 29, 1891. White Star's famous ship of 1889 crossed at an average speed of 20.35 knots to take the Blue Riband. The elegantly dressed folks on the top deck of an excursion boat are waving excitedly while on the distant TEUTONIC passengers can be seen thronging the decks. She didn't hold the record for long. Inman Line's CITY OF PARIS took it back the next year. White Star never emphasized speed again and instead built ships for comfort. 11 1/2" by 16 1/4" and in very good condition with just a little wear and discoloration around the edges.
