Hamburg American Line: A big wall chart from the late 1920s called "The Development of Shipping". The artist is the famous Hans Bohrdt (1857-1945). The chart shows vessels from a dug-out canoe all the way through the latest and greatest, which in this case just happens to be HAPAG's HAMBURG of 1926. Other HAPAG liners include BORUSSIA (1855), HAMMONIA (1883), FURST BISMARK (1892), DEUTSCHLAND (1900), and PRESIDENT LINCOLN (1907). The chart is printed on thick stock and measures 26 1/2" by 37". It is in fair condition - intact but with numerous tears and rips. This chart probably was distributed to travel agencies and perhaps to classrooms? According to the Fine Art Emporium, "Hans Bohrdt was one of the marine artists working for the German Kaiser Wilhelm II. He was also in charge as an artist on the journeys of the Kaiser to Norway and Italy at the turn of the century. Many of his seascapes depict ships form the Imperial Fleet and they are executed in a patriotic style. He exhibited his works after 1881 in Berlin, Munich and Dusseldorf and became Professor in Berlin."
