United States Lines: USL contracted with many American artists to create art work for the UNITED STATES. There was Charles Gilbert's carved glass panels in the First Class Ballroom, Peter Ostuni's sand paintings in the Navajo Lounge, Gwen Lux's dining room decorations, and Austin Purves' aluminum sculptures, to name just a few. USL created a 5 page description of the artists and their works to hand out to passengers. A young Scott Davis, in later years a ship furniture collector of some standing, gained access to the ship in the late 1980s. In a closet on Upper Deck, near the Tourist Class Children's Playroom, he found a handful of these hand-outs. Now they are offered for sale. Each is printed on a textured stationary stock and each has some bending at the edges and a little soiling from years of storage.
