Hamburg American: A passenger list for a voyage from Genoa to New York departing on November 22, 1900. The list is for Cabin Class and shows about 60 names plus a list of officers. On the back are "Grand Winter Cruises" for HAPAG ships such as the AUGUSTE VICTORIA and PRINZESSIN VICTORIA LUISE. HAPAG had the whole cruise thing figured out decades before anyone else. The COLUMBIA was an interesting ship. Launched in 1889, she had 3 masts and 3 funnels. She initially held 220 in First, 120 in Second, and 800 in Third. By the time this voyage in 1900 took place she was downgraded to a Cabin Class steamer. Two years before in 1898 HAPAG had sold the ship to the Spanish but after the Spanish-American War she was put back into HAPAG service. But only for a short time - the Russian bought her in 1904. In 1907 she was scrapped.
