USL: I've had kicking around 3 original USL promotional films that are filled with photos of the ship and her interiors. Now, thanks to the help of Mark Perry (www.shipgeek.com) these movies have been digitially transferred onto DVD for you to enjoy. The films are in excellent condition so the images are crisp and clear. Film #1 is "Building New Superliner S.S. UNITED STATES" which is 12:30 minutes long and in b&w. It is the story of the building of the ship and her launching. Film #2 is "Superliner UNITED STATES Writes Headlines" and is 16:02 minutes long and in color. It also tells the story of the ship's building and covers her historic maiden voyage that broke the speed record. Both these films were produced in 1952/53. The 3rd film is "Superliner S.S. UNITED STATES ... At Your Service!" and covers a transatlantic voyage from boarding at the New York pier to departing in Southampton. This movie is in b&w and 27:39 long. In many ways it is the best because it shows life onboard with lots of views of interiors from all three classes and many deck scenes. Watching this DVD is like stepping back in time. $2 from each sale will be donated to the SS UNITED STATES Conservancy (www.ssunitedstatesconservancy.org) which is dedicated to preserving the ship.
